Lyle Boatman, Better Design is an interior and architectural design services company, located in Palm Springs’ historic 1947 Dollard Building (designed by Albert Frey and John Porter Clark). R. Lyle Boatman has extensive experience in the design industry, having managed interior and architectural design projects for more than 30 years; ranging from something as simple as a Midwest kitchen or bath renovation to five-star hotel and condominium designs in Middle East resort destinations for Emaar (A complete resume is available on With diverse clientele and international projects, Lyle Boatman, Better Design, has planning and development expertise, extensive construction and project management skills, and outstanding architectural consultation and interior design experience. His award winning designs have been presented in well-known publications including Architectural Digest, Better Homes & Gardens, Country's Best Log Homes, Metropolitan Home, and Veranda. Lyle says, " Of all the creative tools of the designer, the most valuable are those which create a shared set of expectations about the process and the outcomes."

Lyle has studied interior-design and architecture at St. Olaf College, Northfield, MN, and at the University of Minnesota. He graduated as Valedictorian of his class (June 2012), with the professional degree Bachelor of Architecture, from NewSchool of Architecture + Design in San Diego, CA. His thesis: Architectur|evolution fosters an evolutionary look at the professional environment in architecture, encouraging broad collaboration and a thorough understanding of economics for students and architects. Lyle is, today, a leading creative design consultant with owner's representative and architectural project management expertise on top of an award winning interior design background. In 2012, Lyle received the prestigious AIA Medal for Outstanding Achievement in Architecture. Lyle Boatman, Better Design, brings simplicity, parsimony, and elegance into modern living. 

Located in Southern California, Lyle Boatman has been an architectural design consultant on select residential projects from coastal San Diego, CA through the Midwest, to the coast of Maine. Design management work includes a K-12 private school campus in Cairo, Egypt, a multi-use mid-rise urban-infill project in New Cairo, offices and sales centers in Istanbul and Cairo, luxury resort condominiums on the Mediterranean coast of Egypt, and hospitality design including a private yacht club, and four- and five-star hotels in planned developments in the Middle East. 

Current work on the boards includes redesign of a modest size Owner’s Bath at the Springs Country Club, and a complete interiors package for a new PGA West home, as well as the ongoing perfection of a Date Palm Country Club private residence. To provide relief from days spent at the computer, Lyle also provides tours of Palm Springs Mid-century Modern architecture. His professional expertise influences each tour presentation, and provides a unique vantage point for touring this historic city.
